The eldest son of John Jackson Openshaw, cotton spinner and his wife Emma, Charles Howard Openshaw was born in 1865 at Bury. He commenced independent practice in Bury about 1897 but died in November 1899, aged 34. After his death the practice was continued by William E Gill under the style of Openshaw and Gill.
