Frederick Angelo Proffitt was born at Walkden, the son of John Thomas Proffitt & Mary and he was educated at Farnworth Grammar School and Salford Technical Institute. He is assumed to have served his articles with his father and by 1916 was noted as a member of the firm of John T Proffitt and Son of Mount Street Manchester. He joined up in September 1914, and rose to the rank Leiutenant in the Royal Marine Light Infantry. He was in the first landing at Gallipoli and saw service in Egypt, Salonika and France. Four times wounded, he was awarded the Military Cross.

Frederick Angelo Proffitt died on 21 September 1951 among 15 killed and 37 injured in a railway accident when the 8.20 express from Liverpool to Euston was derailed at Weedon, Northamptonshire and the coaches fell down an embankment .
