Born on 5 September 1892 at Stoneclough, Bolton George Wallace Proffitt was the eldest son of the architect John Thomas Proffitt and his wife, Mary. Architectural student 1911. Passed intermediate examination of the RIBA and was thus eligible for registration as a student member of the RIBA. (1914). Remained a student member until 1922. No entry in RIBA Kalendar for1924.

Assumed in partnership with his father and brother after 1920 at Walkden.
