The son of (Colonel) John Eaton Sydney Edmund Eaton was born in Ashton-under-Lyne in 1881 and was articled to his father in 1899. After attending Ashton-under-Lyne Technical School and Manchester School of Art he was taken into partnership in 1905, shortly before his father’s death. In 1911 he was elected Licentiate of the RIBA. He appears to have joined the Manchester Regiment in 1916.  The practice of John Eaton Sons and Cantrell may just have survived the war, but by 1922 Sydney Edmund Eaton was working on his own account (Borough Surveyor?) at Darwen.

Sydney Edmund Eaton died on 27 May 1944. Probate records give his place of death as the foreshore, Blackpool, although the circumstances are unclear.
