Thomas Rumble

Thomas Rumble arrived in Manchester with his wife and first child, Joseph Thomas in 1824 and set up practice as architect, surveyor, and “preceptor in architectural drawing”. He remained for about five years being briefly in partnership with Clark Rampling in 1826. Following his bankruptcy in 1828 he returned to London. He acted as clerk of works for Great Marlow Church and produced a print “North West View of Great Marlow Church” published 1835-6, price 1s 6d. He moved next to Reading where he supervised the construction of the Royal Berkshire Hospital designed by Henry Briant.

His son Thomas William Rumble was trained in his office but emigrated to the USA. (see Grace’s Guide). Another son, Henry Euean Rumble (1834 -1902), also trained as an architect and practised at Eastbourne.
