Walter Stanley Hattrell

In 1956 W S Hattrell and Partners of Coventry opened a branch office in Manchester, headed by George Unwin, sometime president of the Manchester Society of Architects. This practice continues under the style Hattrell DSOne, with offices at Chorlton Street, Manchester. Although the works carried out fall ourside the limits of this database, both Walter Stanley and Walter Hubert Hattrell have been included by way of comparison with Manchester architects of the first half of the twentieth century.
Walter Stanley Hattrell was born January 1901, at Coventry, son of the late Walter Herbert Hattrell. FRIBA (sic).; Educated Oundle. Married 1931 Pauline Gertrude, daughter of the late Richard Herbert of Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh; Two sons and one daughter. Senior partner, W. S. Hattrell & Partners, Chartered Architects. Coventry; articled to Mr. Walter Herbert Hattrell; became senior partner, 1925; chairman. Coventry Society of Architects, 1938; elected fellow, Royal Institute of British Architects, 1939; underwriting member, Lloyds, 1949; appointed trustee, Samuel Smith's Charity, Coventry, 1950. Elected Fellow of the RIBA 6 March 1939. In April 1971 W S Hattrell retired to Brancaster, Norfolk, although he continued to act as a consultant to the practice.
