                            New build

A building was erected in Longton for Methodist worship in 1783, but the present chapel dates from 1842. This has a gallery on three sides supported by slender cast iron columns. In 1933 the chapel became Longton Central Mission, and was largely obscured by major additions at the front and rear paid for in part by the Methodist flour mogul Arthur Rank. Of these, the new front extension facing The Strand is itself of some architectural and townscape merit, while the buildings at the rear are of less interest.
