THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL FOR BOYS – The new County High School for Boys was formally opened on Saturday afternoon (12 April 1912) by Sir Alfred Hopkinson, Vice Chancellor of the Victoria University, Manchester. The school, which is just off Ashley Road, and really situated in Bowdon, is a red brick building, surrounded by spacious playing fields. It was designed as a secondary school under the Cheshire County Council Education Committee. It had been well fitted up from every point of view, and included a workshop for manual training, library, dining rom and gymnasium. It was intended for boys of eight or nine years of age to about sixteen, and, if necessary, training could be given for the universities. There were to be both classical and modern sides with additional facilities for science students and un-denominational religious teaching was to be given. [Manchester Guardian 22 April 1912 page 11]
