Barclays Bank Building occupies a prominent site, roughly triangular in shape, bounded by High Street, Lord Street and Church Lane. It has four bays to High Street, one bay to Lord Street and seven bays to Church Street, all of ashlar stone. The principal entrance to the bank is at the High Street/Lord Street junction, which is suitably marked by a tower and dome. The bank appears to have originally occupied only two bays of the building on High Street and three bays on Church Lane; other parts being given over to shop units and offices as market by changes in elevational treatment.
