Barrfield Bowling Club is situated on land bounded by Bolton Road, Barrfield Road and Beech Avenue, Pendleton, and includes club house with three full-size snooker tables and separate steward’s house backing on to Beech Avenue. It was officially opened on 7th August 1897 by Lady Mottram, wife of Sir Richard Mottram a former Mayor of Salford and had been founded by a group of wealthy local residents under the leadership of Sir Richard including Richard Duxbury; Richard Hudson; Arthur Howarth; Richard Parkinson; Joseph Grant, and William Winterbottom. The green was considered one of the most difficult in the area having a crown of 18 inches and covering an area of 2,500 square yards. It is assumed that John Holt was also the architect responsible for the buildings.
