                    On the 16th inst., the Brunswick Room, a hall centrally situated in Whitby in which most of the religious and philanthropic meetings of the town are held, but which is the property of the Wesleyan Methodist Connexion, was re-opened after alterations. The work has been carried out by Mr John Braim of Whitby, Messrs Whitehead of Leeds and others. The designs for the alterations and extensions were prepared by Messrs W Waddington & Son of Manchester.

In 1997 the Victorian Society was attempting to obtain a sympathetic re-use for the redundant buildings. They had opposed the piecemeal removal of its fittings, including the removal of the gallery pews and rostrum pulpit. [Vic Soc Journal 1997 page 58]
