In 1881 Bolton Council were reported as being in negotiations with Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway for a suitable site for a cabmen’s shelter. Thomas Haselden offered his services as an architect gratuitously. The shelter appears on the OS 1:500 Town Plan as an octagonal structure at the entrance to the station yard.
