SCARBOROUGH - Gray and Evans of Liverpool, are the architects of the New Capitol which is being built for the Londesborough Theatre and Picture House (Scarborough), Ltd., at a cost of £45,000. It will have accommodation for 2.250 persons. [Kinematograph Weekly 20 October 1927 page 63]
THE CAPITOL SCARBOROUGH - Our illustration gives a good impression of the frontage of the new Capitol Super now in course of erection on the historical site of Robinson's Mews, Scarborough. The front faces Albemarle Crescent and adjoins the North-Eastern Hotel. The cinema will seat 2,500. and will also have large waiting-rooms and lounges with accommodation for 1,000 patrons. The main entrance is from Albemarle Crescent and leads into a spacious foyer and waiting-hall, which leads directly into the cinema. Staircases on either side of the entrance vestibule lead to waiting lounges for the balcony, immediately over the front entrance hall. The ground floor, which has a seating capacity for 1.700, will be of special design with a gradual raking floor. In the balcony there are 750 seats. The cinema is provided with a stage and dressing-rooms and will be capable of putting on most modern kine-variety shows. The whole building is to be luxuriously furnished and equipped.
Gray and Evans of Liverpool are the architects. The building contractors are F. Shepherd & Son. Ltd. of York, and the engineers are Redpath. Brown & Co.. Ltd„ of Edinburgh. The terra-cotta work is being carried out by the Leeds Fireclay Company of Leeds. The theatre. which is being built for the Londesborough Theatre & Picture House (Scarborough), Ltd., is due to open at the end of the year. The new cinema will be under the same management as the Londesborough Picture House, with Sydney Carter as managing director and Mr. Gregory as supervising manager. [Bioscope 15 August 1928 page 32]
