A plot of land was purchased in Skipton Road in 1911 as a site for a new church to replace St James in Church Street. The scheme by Preston and Martin was not progressed. The foundation stone of the new church Holy Trinity was not laid until 1958 and the church consecrated in 1960.
It was stated by the Gill and St James’ Church officials that plans for the new church in Skipton Road had been altered and the new edifice would now afford seating accommodation for 842 people, estimated to cost £25,000. The architects for the scheme are Messrs Preston and Martin of Manchester. [Builder13 February 1925 Page 288]
