SALFORD - On Saturday the (Roman) Catholic Bishop of Salford laid the foundation stone of the new church of S. Peter, in Greengate. Salford. The new building will be 100 feet in length, by 52 feet in width. The design is by Mr. Welby Pugin, and the style is that of the early part of the fourteenth century.[Building News 20 December 1872 page 490]
