Church of St Thomas, Bottomgate, Blackburn
BLACKBURN -The first stone of a new church at Bottom-gate has been laid. The design, furnished by Mr. Paley, of Lancaster, contemplates sittings for 766 persons on the ground-floor, including children, and the estimated cost of erection is £3,000. A suite of schools also is contemplated.
St Thomas' Church was an Anglican parish church in Blackburn situated on the eastern side of Lambeth Street, between Billinge Street and Skiddaw Street. The first plan for a brick church had been prepared in 1859, but the patron insisted on its being of stone. Originally the plan had been to seat 766 people, but this was later increased to 1,054. The church cost £4,469. The church closed in 1977 and has since been demolished
