Duke of York Hotel, 60, Dickson Road, Blackpool

In August 1889, Henry Hall owned the original Duke of York Hotel at No. 28 Banks Street where John Irish was the landlord. The 'new' three-storey Duke of York Hotel was designed by Halstead Best for the Thwaites Co. and the property was rebuilt at a cost of £28,000. It reopened on 27 May 1939. From its corner entrance access was gained to a large saloon bar and the smoke room was accessed from the Banks Street entrance. There was also a small outdoor department with an entrance on Banks Street. The building is clad in cream faience to the upper two floors with a black granite base and a carved panel of the Duke of York high on the Bank's Street elevation. The Thwaites pub has largely retained its external appearance and has a fenced beer garden to the front and side of the pub; inside it has a large U-shaped main lounge, a food bar, pool table, televisions and features karaoke at weekends.
