About 1905 R D Ashworth, felt manufacturer, commissioned Arthur Brocklehurst to design homes for his nephews Oliver and George. Each was given five thousand pounds to spend on the design and in 1907 Oliver built “Durran.” It was rumoured that some the finishing touches were based on a Scottish castle in the Isle of Rhum, -  the decorative tiles, and the Isle of Skye mosaic marble floor in the entrance hallway and cloakroom.
