In January 1937 Edward Wilcox and Company Limited, manufacturers of specialist electrical appliances for the aircraft industry and general industrial applications, announced their intention to remove from their existing works in Hulme to a new factory at Wythenshawe. This new factory, on Sharston Road, was to be “of modern design with special red bricks to tone with the estate,” and would cost an estimated £10,000.
