Heginbottom Technical Schools School of Art and Free Library Old Street Ashton-under-Lyne
THE HEGINBOTTOM INSTITUTE AT ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE - On Saturday the corners stones of the new technical schools and free Library were laid. The building is the gift of the late Mr. George Heginbottom and to be called the Heginbottom Institute. All the town was festive with decorations of flags and bannerettes, and the ceremony was witnessed by thousands of spectators. The building is to be erected from plans by Mr. John Eaton, and the contractor is Mr. Allen Holmes. [Manchester Courier - Monday 8 June 1891 page 6]
OPENING OF NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOLS AT ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE – Yesterday the new Technical Schools and Free Library, which has just been completed were opened for students without any formal ceremony.
