Twelve storeys (53metres) in height and the first legitimate skyscraper in Los Angeles. Unique foundation with steel supports carrying the frame cantilevered off a mass concrete core. Built some distance from the traditional core of the Downtown area, the attic storeys were embellished to attract attention. The building became a landmark and heralded the move south from the business centre. Compared with the Flatiron Building in New York. Shortly after its completion a City Ordinance was passed limiting the height of buildings. Excepting City Hall, it remained the tallest building in LA until the Ordinance was finally revoked in 1961.
