Atkinson Esqr No 1 Hope Street Manchester', 15 Jun 1815, in Lismore Castle archives (IAA photocopy no. 01/01-02); Mark Girouard, 'Lismore Castle, Co. Waterford', Country Life 136, 6 Aug 1964, dates work to 1811, but according to Lindsay J. Proudfoot, Urban Patronage and Social Authority: the management of the Duke of Devonshire's towns in Ireland, 1764-1891 (1995), 214, the 6th Duke did not initiate the reconstruction until he visited Ireland in 1812.
