MEMORIAL TABLET TO THE LATE BISHOP - A memorial tablet has been erected in St Paul's Church, Kersal, to the memory of the late Bishop of Manchester. The frame surrounding the inscription slab is of alabaster, carved in the late Gothic style to correspond with the church. In the upper part appears the late Bishop's arms with mitre, and the motto "Je suis prest," executed in relief and painted in heraldic colours. The whole has been carried out by Messrs J & H Patteson from the designs of Mr A H Davies-Colley ARIBA of 48 King Street in this city. The centre slab which is of statuary marble bears the following inscription:

In memory of James Fraser DD, late fellow of Oriel College Oxford, born August 18th. 1818, who as Bishop of Manchester shone in England as a preacher of righteousness; spending all his strength for 15 years with a great courage and a cheerful heart in the service of Christ's flock in Lancashire. He entered into rest at Bishop's Court in this parish. His fellow parishioners, among whom he lived and died, set up this tablet here, where he was wont to worship, thanking God for him.
