New Central Fire Brigade Station, Bootle. (Architectural Competition)
FIRE STATION, BOOTLE - Twenty-two competitive plans for the proposed new fire station at Bootle have been sent in. The author of the selected plans will receive, as his award, the appointment of architect of the buildings, with commission upon the contract; and a second premium of 25 guineas is also offered. The scheme, excluding the cost of the site, which is situated in Irlam-road, is not to exceed £15,000; and, in the event of the Local Government Board refusing to sanction the borrowing of the money, the successful competitor will receive 50 guineas as remuneration for his work. In the plans of the proposed fire station, house accommodation has been made for twenty married and ten single men. [Builder 15 January 1898 page 57]
