Today St Catherine’s Church, Barton will celebrate its jubilee. In commemoration of this event a chancel has been erected at a cost of £1,500. Several handsome gifts have been made to the church including a stained glass window in the chancel to the memory of the late Mr and Mrs Henry Boddington. The cost has been borne by the family of the deceased and is the work of Messrs Burlington and Grylls of London. The structural alterations have been carried out by Mr James Walker, Barton, from plans prepared by Mr Preston, architect. [Manchester Guardian 25 October 1893 page 6]
