The foundation stones of a new Wesleyan Chapel at Higher Openshaw were laid on Saturday afternoon. The new chapel is to cost about £2,650. The Wesleyan body first established themselves in the district in 1872, holding their services in a joiner’s shop. In 1877 a school chapel was built, which is not now sufficiently large for the increasing congregation. There are 160 members of the society and 450 children in the Sunday School. Mr Lindley of Ashton-under-Lyne, is the architect for the new building, and Mr James Robinson, of Ashton-under-Lyne, the contractor.
