NEW OFFICE BLOCK NEAR ST PAUL’S – A new block of offices, six storeys high, is to be built near St Paul’s Cathedral. The building, which is to be completed by the end of next year, will be on an island site in Cannon Street, bounded by Old Change, Distaff Lane, and Knightrider Street. It will be known as Old Change House. Work has begun on clearing the ground, which was a war-damaged site. An investment company bought the land from the Exchange Telegraph Company. The agents, Fawdry and Evans, state that the building is expected to cost about £530,000. The architect is Mr T H Birks, and the plans are awaiting approval by the City authorities. The plan provides for a banqueting chamber in the basement. [Times 24 June 1955 page 6]
