These cottages were built for the 1905 Letchworth Cheap Cottages Exhibition, and were similar in style to the largest of the three designs on Dunkerley’s drawing of the planned employee houses for the Heatly Gresham Company. They were built of Asbestic brick to give better heat and sound insulation. Although providing the same accommodation as the cheaper houses, the rooms were more spacious and the total cost per cottage was £168 or £200 according to internal fittings. They survive today as 202 and 204 Nevells Road.[Richard Fletcher]
