POULTON WAR MEMORIAL. THE APPROVED DESIGN OF MESSRS. POTTS AND HENNINGS, ARCHITECTS. The site of the Poulton Memorial is the garden enclosure in Queen's-square, the crown of which is prepared to receive the monument by the erection of a recessed rustic tic Ravenhead brick wall, surmounted by a Shap granite coping block. The monument, which is to be constructed of Shap pink granite, with rustic and axed dressings, consists of a square base. On the front side of this base will be a bronze plate. bearing the dedication and on the two sides the names of the fallen. The top of the base is moulded and shaped to receive an octagon block, which in its turn is reduced to receive the main shaft of some 9 feet in length. On the top of this shaft is fixed the traditional ball and cross. Around the base of the monument are placed 8 oak posts, some 6 inches thick in octagonal form and suspended between each is an ornamental iron chain. On the outside of this railing is the traditional pebble paving some 2 feet in width, and surrounding this paving are two tiers of 12 in. by 6in. curbing. The total height of the memorial is 18 feet. The estimated cost of this Memorial is £400. [Fleetwood Chronicle - Friday 9 December 1921 page 7]
