Proposed New Hotel. South Shore Blackpool

BLACKPOOL licensing magistrates. at their adjourned meeting today granted an application made by William Lockhart Marshall for permission to sell all intoxicants by retail for consumption on or off the premises at an hotel proposed to be built at South Shore, fronting the carriage drive, at a cost of £225,000. The hotel was to be erected on an Island site at end of the new promenade owned by the Blackpool Corporation. The Corporation had given their blessing to the scheme by offering the land to Marshall, who had taken an option for considerable figure on it. The land in question occupied 3.4 acres. The hotel would occupy more than one acre and would be set back fifty feet from the roadway. It was to be planned on the lines of the Palace Hotel at Bournemouth, and there would be a frontage to the Promenade of 370 feet. Inside there would be a conference hall or ballroom accommodating 1,000 people, and next to that there would be a banqueting hall for 450 people. In addition, there would be a grill room for 100 people. a restaurant for 425 people, and 280 bedrooms, each with a separate bathroom attached to it. …. Mr. Halstead Best, the architect for the scheme, said the bar accommodation had been provided, and external entrances would be introduced so that customers at the bars would not go down the central corridor of the hotel.
