The Royalty Theatre at the corner of Market Street and Cheapside, Morecambe was built for Mr Jowett as a drama theatre and opened on 4 April 1898, with a seating capacity of approximately 1,200. Interior decoration was carried out by Messrs J. and R. Dean, of Birmingham. Closed and demolished in 1957.  The local press commented specially on Matcham's role:

“Like all Mr Frank Matcham's designs it is thoroughly modern and up to date in every respect and perhaps just for this reason, whether we ought to assign it to the classical style of architecture or not, seems to be a moot point to many people. Suffice it to say that this last of Mr Matcham's creations shows no falling off... if increasing experience counts for anything, we would naturally expect that the last theatre designed by the eminent architect would be the best.”
