Spur Mill was erected in 1907-1909 by the Spur Doubling Co. specialising in doubling yarn for the lace, hosiery and lisle trades.

Red brick with stone dressings. Large central engine house with four tall round-arched windows on each side and a large arched opening in the north elevation. Boiler house attached to the south side, with the base of a chimney. A (possibly truncated) tower at the north-west corner of the engine house appears to be a later addition, it has an upper stage with flat-headed openings. Single-storey ranges surround the engine houses, those visible with north-light roofs. Entrance with tall painted gate piers. Single-storey office block of brick with stone dressings has tall windows and an elaborate stone entrance bay with Baroque features including a very large exaggerated keystone. It retains some original interior partitioning. Walls to Broadstone Hall Road and Haigh Avenue are of brick with sunk panels and decorative channelling. Window openings in the panels beside the entrance on Broadstone Hall Road. [Stockport Local Listing]

THE NEW DOUBLING MILL - Such rapid progress has been made on the new doubling mill, now in course of erection in Greg Street that it is well approaching completion, and hopes are entertained that the mill, which is owned by a limited company, will be opened about Whitsuntide. The new factory will be known as the Spur Doubling Mill, and when in full work it will find employment for some 450 workpeople, so that substantial support for the district will be secured by its success. No stone is being left unturned to secure this success in the fullest degree. The mill is being fitted with the most approved modern machinery for doubling fine yarn of the best quality; it will include 20,000 spindles so arranged as to work both day and night (125 hours per week) and will, it is held, when completed be the most up-to-date doubling concern in this district.
