The Bishop of Manchester yesterday consecrated the new Houghton Memorial Church, Baden Street, Ashton Old Road, built, as a mural inscription in the west porch testifies, “To the glory of God and in memory of a loving mother, by her daughter."  The church is dedicated in the name of St Jerome, and a parish has been assigned to it, carved out of the parish of St. Silas, Ashton Old Road. …  The building is of brick, and the cost has been defrayed out of a sum of £7,000 given anonymously for providing the church and the adjoining hall.
