In December 1940 Whalley Range Presbyterian Church was severely damaged by bombing and, as a result, the Whalley Range and Chorlton Presbyterian churches amalgamated on the Chorlton site under the name of St Ninian's Presbyterian Church. In 1949, following receipt of a significant amount of War Damage compensation for the damage to the Whalley Range building, it was decided to build a new church, adjacent and connected to the original Chorlton-cum-Hardy Presbyterian Church building. Built at a cost of £14,198, the church opened for worship in November 1951.
