Cringlemire lies on rising ground one mile west of Langdale Chase. Sheltered by conifers, the surrounding gardens were consciously designed as an arboricultural museum by Thomas H Mawson, Robert Mawson and Dan Gibson. The summer house is illustrated in The Art and Craft of Garden Making by Thomas Mawson, 5th edition fig.205
