The Exchange Wine Bar, 98-100 Bolton Street, Blackpool

The old Exchange Wine Bar was said to be one of Blackpool's oldest licensed premises, although it is not included in the 1873—95 register of licensed premises. It was rebuilt and extended into adjoining shops by John Smiths, brewers of Tadcaster to the design of Halstead Best and opened in the spring of 1939, comprising a lounge and separate public bar. It became the Noggin in the mid-1970s and in 1997 it was named Legends and owned by Inntrepreneur Pub Company Limited. It was later renamed the Exchange and by 2010 it was the Brigadier Gerard. It remained as a pub until about April 2010 after which time it was converted into two self-contained flats and all the character of the 1939 frontage has been lost.
