A substantial stone-built house, designed in a 17th century vernacular style. The house is a roughly L-plan building, with steeply pitched roof, gables and gablets, and ornamented with features such as mullioned windows, timber-framing and an oriel window. Internally, the Stone House includes a staircase dating from c.1700, which was re-sited from the demolished Castle Inn in Preston. The house is sited within a mature garden to the south of Whittingham Lane.
