Warehouse Princess Street and Bancroft Street Manchester
Private improvements in Manchester are continually in progress; new warehouses of palatial magnificence rise up on every hand, and improved shop fronts are too common to noteworthy. An improvement in Bancroft-street, however, deserves notice. Early in the week workmen commenced operations preparatory to the embellishing Bancroft-street with something more pleasing to the eye than the unsightly gable ends which had hitherto been the chief characteristic of this street. Messrs. Armstrong and Son, wine and spirit merchants, who had their premises curtailed by the formation of Bancroft-street, are about to erect a handsome frontage the corner of Princess-street and three stories high, in the Italian style. Mr. E. Nicholson, Princess Street, will be the architect. [Manchester Courier 3 April 1858 page 7]
