The Wesleyans founded their first church on Ashton Road in 1816. On the 7 August 1871, John Lever laid the foundation stone of a second church to be built on Hyde Road. The first service in the new building took place on 27 June 1872.  In 1882, Trinity House was completed on Hyde Road adjacent to the church as the residence of the incumbent minister. In 1932 the Wesleyan Methodists joined with the Primitive Methodists and the United Methodists to form the Methodist Church. The foundation stone of the Sunday school on Patterson Street, was laid on the 24 May 1873 by Sir James Watts of Abney Hall, Cheadle, and it opened on the 29 December 1873 (Middleton, 1936, p.81). Eventually the Sunday School became a council school and it was extended in 1914.

DENTON - The foundation stone of a new Wesleyan chapel and schools, to be erected on Hyde-road, Denton, at a cost of £3,500, has been laid. The new building will occupy a commanding situation on the main road, the mixed and infant schools being situated immediately in the rear. The design, which has been prepared by Mr. George B. Ford, of Burslem, in Staffordshire, is in the Gothic style of architecture. The arrangement of the plan is that of a simple parallelogram for the chapel. The material used in the erection will be pressed red brick, relieved by bands of blue Staffordshire brick and Yorkshire stone dressings. Accommodation will be afforded for about 400 persons with 255 children in the gallery. At the east end of the chapel will be placed the orchestra, the minister's vestry, and a large class-room. The span of the roof will be 38 ft. The schools will consist of four class-rooms, arrangements being provided for future enlargement. The mixed and infant school-rooms will be so constructed that on any public occasion they may be made to form one large room. The mixed schools will accommodate 400, and the infant school 100 children. [Builder 26 August 1871 page 673]

DENTON - A new Wesleyan chapel has been opened here for divine service. The style of architecture is Gothic, and, together with the arrangement of the plan, is upon the model of another chapel recently erected from the designs of the architect (Mr. George B. Ford, of Burslem). The accommodation provided is for nearly 600 persons on tho ground floor, and in the gallery across one end ; and at the opposite end of the chapel is an orchestra, underneath which is a large class-room, and adjoining this is a minister’s vestry and lavatory, with closet attached. In securing the site sufficient land was purchased for the erection of schools, which are to be built forthwith. The works have been canned out by Mr. Stringer, of Sandbach, from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Ford, the architect. The cost of the building and fittings is about £3,400.
