SMALLTHORNE. A Wesleyan chapel was built at Smallthorne in 1857 but was replaced by a new chapel in 1867, the old one being sold. This chapel was enlarged in 1886. In 1940 it seated 400 and was still in use in 1957. A Sunday school, behind the chapel, was built in 1872. Early OS maps indicate that the chapel and school stood on the vacant plot at the junction of Leek Road and Victoria Street (now Ford Green Road and Regina Street)
