Founded by George Osborne Barratt (1827-1906) in the mid-19th century, moving from Hoxton to Wood Green in 1880 to expand their facilities, By the 1950s Barratts occupied a site of over 5 acres in Wood Green and no other manufacturing confectioner in the country offered such a wide variety of sweets — about 200 lines were listed as in production in 1950 some of which were made in very large quantities. Final closure 1980

In 1922 Westwood and Emberton were commissioned to design a new extension with a curved façade following the line of Coburg Road

Joseph Emberton continued to work for Barratts from 1927-1945
