A new Roman Catholic Church is about to be erected at Alma Park, Levenshulme, in place of the present chapel, which it is intended to convert into a school. The new building will consist of a church affording accommodation, exclusive of an organ gallery at the west end, for 120 worshippers and a spacious choir for the use of the nuns of the adjoining convent of the Poor Clares. The style is Early English, and the church will be dedicated to Our Lady and St Clare. The architect is Mr Herbert E Tijou, of Manchester. [Manchester Guardian 22 June 1882 page 5]

The Bishop of Salford laid the foundation stone of a new church in Levenshulme, on Saturday. The church will cost about £2000 and the style of the building will be Early English. It will provide accommodation for 150 persons. The architect is Mr H E Tijou, and the builders Mr J L Ward and Mr James Corcoran.
