Refurbishment

Changes in Victorian shopping habits were hinted at in a gushing review of the refurbishment of this restaurant set in the heart of Manchester’s retail district’ "You will be delighted with the ladles' tea- room, decorated in cream and gold, upholstered in dark blue velvet, and lighted by electricity. No manly foot is allowed to enter this petty sanctum but there is a cosy general dining room." [Manchester Daily Examiner & Times - Thursday 12 October 1893 page 8] At no extra charge the restaurant also offered a ladies’ changing room, parcel holding and post-restante facilities.
