Herbert Isitt was born on 8 March 1852, at Bradford, the eldest child of George H Isitt, grocer and provisions merchant, and his wife Mary Ann Isitt and was educated at Stutton Grove Boarding School Stutton-with-Hazelwood, near Tadcaster.  In the 1870s Herbert Isitt had been in partnership with John Waugh engineer, as Waugh and Isitt, working principally on the Morecambe Baths, Winter Gardens, and Aquarium. This partnership was dissolved on 25 December 1880 [London Gazette} 8 February 1881 page 572]. For the next three years Isitt practiced alone with offices at Bradford and Wigan before taking William Verity into partnership under the style Isitt and Verity. In 1883, at Bath, Somerset, Herbert Isitt married Ada Lord the daughter of John Holt Lord and Jane Willis, who was born in 1858 at Penzance.  They had one daughter, Lilian Lord Isitt born 12 October 1883.

Herbert Issit died on 20 June 1891 at his new residence, Rose Villa, Cowpasture Road, Ilkley weeks after his removal from Bradford.
