Arthur Turner was a pupil in the practice of Wild, Collins and Wild, Architects, and set up his own business at 26 Clegg Street, Oldham in 1904, later moving to 11, Clegg Street. He designed five new mills in Shaw and Royton between 1906 and 1926 as well as being responsible for a number of extensions, but was perhaps best known as the architect of the Elk Mill, the last mule framed mill to be built in Lancashire. Living for many years at Abbeyhills House where the Manor Inn now stands, he took his son into partnership with him in the 1920s and after his father's death in 1934, Percy Turner continued to run the practice as Arthur Turner & Son for many years carrying out his last card shed extension at the Larch Mill in 1950.  The practice later moved to Windsor Road as Turner, Son & Partners.  and the successors are still in business in Manchester.
