Edward Newsham Worthington was born at Preston, the son of John and Sarah Worthington (nee Higginbottom). By 1851 the family had moved to Manchester where E N Worthington found employment as an apprentice joiner. By 1876 he was a surveyor and valuer with offices at 41 John Dalton Street.

Edward Newsham Worthington died at his residence, 2 Granville Road, Fallowfield, on 4 June 1897. One of the executors of his will was George Harry Higginbottom, of Saint James Square, Manchester, Architect and Surveyor, presumably a relative of his late wife, although details are not clear.
