 The son of Grenville David Myer and Rachel Mathilda Simmons, George Val Myer was born on 14 March 1883 at Hereford. He was articled to John Belcher, RA; (1841-1941) in 1900. He also attended Regent Street Polytechnic, Westminster School of Art and University College, London. Myer commenced independent practice in London in 1902 and qualified as an architect in 1905. He was also elected an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (ARIBA) that year.  

He joined the army at the outbreak of War in 1914 and served in France with the Sherwood Foresters and Royal Engineers, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At the end of hostilities, he remained with the Army (Disposals Department) for a further three years and finished working at Marseilles. He then became Assistant to the Government Architect of Bengal but after a year be had to return to England, for health reasons. Having picked up an infection he weighed only 8 stones, though well over 6 feet tall. He served again in France in 1939-1940 and later was camouflage officer for all London's "pill boxes" including the famous "Book Stall" and "Enquiry Bureau".

Partnerships

Fair and Myer (qv) with John William Fair (1871-1915) in December 1905. The partnership was dissolved on 13 November 1914 presumably after Myer enlisted.

Tubbs, Messer, and Val Myer -  In 1922 the RIBA Journal reported “Cyril B. Tubbs and A. A. Messer, of Craig’s Court House, Whitehall, S.W.1 i, have taken into partnership Mr. G. Val Myer, A.K LB.A., late of 58 Marylebone Lane, Wigmore Street, W.1. The style of the new firm will be Messrs. Tubbs, Messer and Val Myer, and the business of the firm will be carried on at Craig’s Court House and 4a Sea Road, Bexhill-on-Sea.  [RIBA Journal 1922 Vol 30 1922 page 404] This partnership was dissolved in January 1924 

Myer & Watson-Hart with Francis James Watson-Hart (1880-1953), formed in 1929 Arthur William Willis later became a partner in the practice which was renamed Myer, Hart & Willis [Val Myer Hart & Willis]. Myer withdrew from the practice in 1950, and the partnership between Watson-Hart and Willis was dissolved upon the death of Watso Hart in 1953.
