Henry Cox McCulloch was born in St Andrews on 10 December 1866 and apprenticed to James Gillespie in St Andrews in February 1883. He remained as an assistant after completing his apprenticeship and in January 1889 moved to the office of J & F Salmond in Dundee. He left to work briefly for James Maclaren & Sons. He subsequently worked for David Henry of St Andrews before returning to the Salmonds in March 1891. In July 1892 he moved to Manchester to work for Henry Lord (qv) where he remained until he commenced independent practice at 9 Corporation Street in the same city in March 1904. He was admitted LRIBA on 20 March 1911, his proposers being Henry Lord, John Robert Earnshaw and Paul Ogden, all of Manchester. He died on 18 October 1940 at Manchester Royal Infirmary and was survived by his widow, Florence Ada.
