Born at Macclesfield in 1810, James Bayley was the son of William and Sarah Bayley. He commenced independent practice in Manchester around the time of his marriage in 1834 and remained in Manchester until about 1847, when he removed to Altrincham. Isabella Bayley died in November 1850. The last record yet found to him practising as an architect was in the Post Office Directory of 1857.
