Leslie George Whitbread was the son of the Rev George Whitbread, a Wesleyan minister and was educated Kingswood School Bath and Manchester University School of Architecture. He was articled to Sydney Moss, architect and surveyor. St. Ann’s Square, Manchester, about 1909, and stayed with him as an assistant for some time. He was afterwards assistant to Arthur Brocklehurst, Manchester. He enlisted as a private in the 6th Battalion, Manchester Regiment in October 1914 and saw service at Gallipoli. He died of dysentery aboard HM Hospital Ship “Cawdor Castle” at sea off Spain on 11 September 1915 in his 24th year.
